#20 Silica Sand is graded specifically to filter and trap particles in the range of 20 to 80 microns. Over time, dirt and debris that collect in your filter will cause your pressure gauge reading to increase. When it reaches 8 pounds above your clean filter reading, it's time to perform a backwash.
